Work in progress

1.- Operationalizing Relational Heterogeneity in Divorce-Risk Modeling: A Simulation and Pricing Framework

Actuarial models of marital dissolution generally rely on structural predictors and give limited attention to relationship-process heterogeneity. This methodological proof of concept combines a structural divorce-risk baseline with two simulated relational specifications through an exposure-weighted adjustment that preserves annual BASE expected divorce exits. The only observed divorce input is the 2024 U.S. refined divorce rate; couples, relational measures, events, and product values are simulated, while biological survival uses U.S. Social Security Administration cohort tables. Relational heterogeneity leaves portfolio means broadly stable but widens risk and premium distributions, changes couple-level rankings, and alters alive-and-married persistence. The full and parsimonious specifications are close in aggregate yet non-equivalent for individual classification. Basic DI and hybrid return-of-premium or fixed final-benefit designs translate the redistribution differently. MLI produces a distinct rather than inverse ranking because its liability also depends on joint biological survival. The framework establishes internal actuarial coherence, not empirical or commercial validity; longitudinal validation and appropriate governance remain necessary.

2.- Beyond Old-Age Pensions: A Coherence Framework for Extending NDC Principles to Disability, Long-Term Care, and Survivor Protection

Non-financial defined contribution (NDC) systems are conventionally associated with old-age pensions. Their potential relevance to other social-insurance contingencies, however, extends beyond the direct application of an individual account and an annuity divisor. This paper examines how the principles underlying NDC schemes can be related to disability, long-term care (LTC) and survivor protection, and identifies which elements are portable, which require adaptation and which should remain institutionally separate. It develops a comparative coherence framework centred on transparent resource attribution, contingency-specific actuarial valuation, explicit solidarity, financial balance at different levels and consistency between financing arrangements and benefit objectives. The analysis shows that there is no single NDC extension suitable for all contingencies. Working-age disability is better accommodated through separately priced but coordinated social insurance, with NDC accounting serving as a benchmark for identifying insurance and redistributive components. LTC cash benefits can be incorporated into multistate actuarial structures, but an account-based approach cannot replace the collective organisation and provision of care services. Survivor protection requires explicit beneficiary-specific rights and rules governing the use of mortality-generated capital, rather than the automatic transfer of the standard old-age NDC formula. A synthetic fixed-contribution multistate illustration is used only to demonstrate how alternative pooling and resource-attribution arrangements distinguish aggregate financial insufficiency from imbalances created by rigid separation between contingencies. The paper concludes that the main contribution of NDC beyond retirement lies not in mechanically replicating its old-age formula, but in providing a transparent architecture for relating contributions, contingent rights, insurance, redistribution and financial balance across different social risks.
